In science class, we did a two day lab on digestion. We learned what happens in your stomach when food mixes with the pepsin (enzyme) with hydrochloric acid. The food dissolves because of the acid and pepsin and this action is called digestion. In our experiment we have four tubes A, B, C and D. in each tube there were three egg whites acting as food in the digestion system. Tube A and C are controls because all A has is the pepsin and all C has is the hydrochloric acid. In tubes B there is pepsin and water. In tube D there is hydrochloric acid and pepsin. Tube D mimics our stomachs process in digestion. Than we let the tubes sit over night to break down. The next day when I continued the experiment to check the results I found out that tubes A and B did not have a reaction because there was no hydrochloric acid. In tubes C and D there was a reaction because of the hydrochloric acid. The tube with the greatest reaction was D because it had both pepsin and hydrochloric acid to break down the food. We experienced how the stomach works when it is digesting food.
